During the first two months of my EVS I have worked in Prague for I-Club, a local group of Duha, that organizes international summer camps for children. I took part in two camps, one in Liberec and one in Germany. Both the camps were for Czech and German children. There I felt myself as an outside observer, as I could observe the behavior of the two groups from a very external point of view, being the only non-Czech and non-German person in the camp. In both camps there was a nice atmosphere of interest in what was different between the German and Czech cultures. The international summer camps are of course a good way for the children to open their mind to the world. They get the chance to learn a new language and improve their English as they used it as “lingua franca”. In both the international camps the sharing of different cultures and different languages by using games and workshops has product interesting and funny outcomes for children and leaders as well. The children have been the most beautiful side of my experience during the camps. Even if we didn't have a common language, they always tried to communicate with me, and we developed a „non-verbal“ communication, sometimes much better than hundred words!
